Once owned and run by the old family of Foster who, according to Cudworth originated near Hebden Bridge, where "they employed hand loom weavers, distributing warps and wefts... collecting the woven pieces twice a week." The advent of steam began the factory system that killed off hand loom weaving and created vast wealth for the enterprising owners and prosperity for Denholme. |
