Denholme Old Road runs down the valley side past the foot of Foster's mill and climbs on into Denholme. In its last years the mill had a mighty chimney, long since demolished, intended to
rival those of other mill owners around the district, but until the railway crossed lower down the valley as it tunnelled its way from Bradford to Halifax, the village had been a walk in, walk out kind of place.
