If we continue down Bartle Fold to the back of Brooksbank House we find this odd
medley of buildings whose purpose we might hazard a guess at. On the left are two
cottages of probable 17th century origin built before Brooksbank House, that could be,
judging by the alterations to the left-hand upper window, hand loom weavers' homes.
The 19th century building to the right has a taking-in door at first floor level indicating
a use at some time as an ancillary wool trades workshop. The lighter colour of the
stone by that door indicates that a range of other buildings stood here too.
