The Four Ashes was a coaching inn on the stage coach route from Leeds and Bradford to Halifax and Manchester. Horses could be changed here and perhaps an additional pair added for the long steep haul up to Queensbury.

It was last used as a public house in the late 1960's but was burnt down and stood derelict for many years. Thankfully it has been fully restored for its present owners Windle & Company for use as an auction house.

It is a very handsome building of pleasing symmetry and human scale.
