Where these houses now stand was an open plot of land known in the village as The Tide Field. This field stretches from Southfield Lane alongside the Old Bell Chapel and the "Bell School" and filled the space between these buildings and Beldon Lane. The Tide was the annual fair that came to Great Horton every
Autumn. It will never return.
