Drop down Brighouse Road and you will soon find
what was once the main gate of the whole mill. How long it has been blocked
up is hard to tell but the traffic has certainly crusted the lower part of the
gatehouse with filth. It is a massive and symmetrical building of understated
quality. The pediment is full width but flattened: the gateway arch springs from
solid quoins and is modelled after Tudor shapes. The side doors were probably
where the workers with pen at one side and hand at the other, were tagged
in and out. No change there then. |
