 | This fine Georgian building tells everyone who sees it precisely what its purpose was. That lack of subtlety was quite deliberate: the cost of keeping felons locked up was just as much a problem then as it is now. The symmetrical facade has a portal of forbidding strength, with interlocked iron bars in each light and manacles of menace. Above the portal the Town Arms are on show and right at the top the most subtle hint ~ a sundial crowns all.
