Thoresby College
was built circa 1500 to house 13 chantry priests belonging to the Trinity Guild.
It seems
highly unlikely a building as large as this was the home of so few.
Chantry chapels are located on bridges in
Wakefield and Rotherham where priests
said prayers for the souls of wealthy, but dead, people. Since the
Reformation
the building has had many uses; a home for the Town Clerk, a school until 1936
and
restoration after 1963 to make flats for older citizens, offices and a
youth hostel in 1968.
