In the Millfleet
Area.
The Greenland Fishery House here on Bridge Street was built in 1605 for
merchant and Mayor, John Atkin.
The name it now carries comes from its use
as a public house during the period when the whaling industry
was a major contributor
to the town's prosperity ~ not to mention it's smells!
It is a large and important
building on three floors with jettying to each floor. The top floor is the most
odd:
it looks like a gallery, but is never tall enough. There are three lovely
oriel windows in the facade.
