The cartouche from the centre of the Waag contains a coat of arms with a helm crowned and surmounted by an angel. In the curved top is a shell that was worn on the hats of pilgrims to the shrine of Saint James at Santiago de Compostela.

I am sorry about this but whoever did the painting of the supporting lions turned them into grinning apes. Funny and sad at one and the same time.
