Sint Gertrudiskerk's bell tower was built apart from the main church and looks, like so many of the period, that it ran out of funds before it was finished. Or it could be the foundations were as iffy as those of the Oldehove at Leeuwarden or Dordrecht's Grote Kerk tower.

Sitting on top is an onion dome sadly out of scale with the bulk of the tower ~ which could be another indicator that building ceased prematurely.
