Relief for the Airborne holding the north end was supposed to come
along this road which not only leads to Driel and its ferry, but back to
the Guards Regiment fighting its way from Belgium. They did arrive,
but too late to matter, being held up by ferocious German attacks on
the single road they had to negotiate.
