Operating from the Bierkade near the Accijnstoren this little ferry putters
back and forth across the Noord Hollands Kanal connecting the older town
with a newer suburb. The Noord Hollands Kanal was constructed to allow
ships to journey from Den Helder to Amsterdam's Ij avoiding the Pampas
sandbank blocking access between Zuider Zee and Amsterdam. It was a
costly failure and is used now more for pleasure than impossible profit.
