The coat of arms above belong to the aristocratic Snouck van Loosen
family who were great patrons of the town, but whose past included,
like many English aristocrats of the time, links to the slave trade and
the so-called triangular trade taking slaves to the Caribbean islands and
sugar and other tropical products to Europe.
