Every
major town had its Waag where all goods were weighed
and marked and this is
a fine example. Built in 1609 to a design
attributed to Hendrick de Keyser
and now a restaurant, it stands
in Rode Steen at the corner of Grote Oost.
In the centre, the
niche has the symbol of the town, a unicorn holding a
shield with
a cornucopia, the sign of plenty.
