Willem
Bontekoe [1587-1657] was master of a VOC ship from 1618-1625. He wrote an account of one disastrous voyage that set out with 206 crew from Hoorn for Batavia and arrived home with 54 survivors. [See Weeshuis above]. Altogether his books recount his adventures in Asian waters, fighting for trade against Chinese and Portuguese plus his stay in Madagascar. |
