Characters abound on any market and this fine fellow was doing a good trade and could as easily talk to me in English as he could to a German tourist in his own tongue. In fact I was rather shocked to find most pamphlets and tourist brochures were in Dutch and German sooner than English. I should not have been shocked: getting to Deventer is very simple for German tourists but not so for the English. My countrymen should get to know what they are missing.
