On the Grote Kerkhof the secular meets the spiritual in the shape of this superb example of art married to power. The gable was designed by Jacob Roman in 1694 on a pre-existing medieval stadhuis.

Three doorways adorn the ground floor but I think you can just about see a figure emerging from the right hand doorway which is a passageway taking you to the rear of this magnificent building.

At the very top stands a knight carrying a jousting lance under the date 1632. Now why do we have a conflict of dates here?
