Many of the towers of Holland's great churches were built on a previous building's foundations. Perhaps this explains the lean on this tower. It certainly explains why Dordrecht's Grote Kerk never increased in height. Within the church are the graves of Admirals Piet Hein and Maarten Tromp, together with a memorial to Antonie van Leeuwenhoek whose discovery of the microscope opened a new world to science. |
