Storms hitting the delta combined with floods of snow melt coming down the
great rivers that flow amongst the islands of Zeeland have not only created the
islands but have shaped them too. So much shaping over the centuries that land
known in the Middle Ages has vanished and harbours like Zierikzee's have long
since silted up. The Old Fish Market here was built when the Town's commerce
with the sea was far greater.
