The old Stadhuis wooden tower top is as flamboyant as you could want, carved brackets, tiny dormer windows, onion dome and defiant figure for a weather vane all make me smile with pleasure. The carillon you would be disappointed not to find in such a building is visible just above the balustrade. The
hexagonal base of the tower must have been built as defensible building
in times when the Spanish enemy could attack as it did before through
the slack tides in the shallows of Tholen. |
